Each sewing kit includes fabric, a printed paper pattern, thread, and any notions required to complete the project. You can select your choice of environmentally friendly fabric, color, and trim, depending on the product. Every design has written instructions with photos.

Our ready-to-wear garments are made-to-order, handmade in Brooklyn, NY. Once you choose your fabric, style, and size, we will produce a custom-made garment to fulfill your order. This allows us to only produce what is purchased which eliminates waste and overproduction.

This workshop covers in great detail every step along the construction process for the Just My Luck Jeans sewing pattern. In the first session, I cover all of the intro pages and walk you through materials needed, size selection, fit recommendations, preparing your pattern, and more. Then, in the following 4 sessions, I cover every sewing step in real time. What does real time mean? Well, I do not cut anything or speed up the video (except for 1 or 2 moments). What you see is the actual making of the jeans at the real pace so you can literally sew along!

The workshop sessions also include a 2-camera setup. One camera focuses on the work I am doing on the table, ironing board, or sewing machine while the other camera focuses on my face as I talk you through all the steps. What I think is really cool about this setup versus doing a voiceover of the sewing constructions steps after the fact, is you get to really hear my thoughts throughout the process. I share tips & tricks as I am sewing, I include the times I needed to seam rip a stitch line and show you how I would fix a mistake, and it is kind of like I am there in the room sewing with you!

My sister came to visit for the weekend so naturally I made her try on the #JustMyLuckJeans and model for a little photoshoot while we were out walking her pup 🐶

We call this look Dog Walking Chic 🐾

This pair is a size too big for her, but definitely workable! She wore them out for the dog walk, then to go thrifting and grab donuts. A perfect outfit for a day in Brooklyn 👌

THE FIT - The #JustMyLuckJeans pattern comes in 3

THE FIT - The #JustMyLuckJeans pattern comes in 3 separate inseam lengths across sizes 0-32. Separated into 2 size ranges which includes 0-18 B-Block and 14-32 D-Block (up to 61.5”/156cm hip)

The PDF instruction booklet includes detailed suggestions for how to choose your size, make fit & pattern adjustments, and many finished garment measurements. The finished garment measurements not only help you select your size, but also your inseam length!

The intended fit is for the waistband to hit just below your belly button/natural waist, and fit comfortably from the waistband through the high hip. It shouldn’t be “too tight”, and it shouldn’t be “too loose” from the waistband through the high hip area.

From the high hip down to the hem, the jeans are roomy! *Yay for comfort!* The low hip area should be relaxed, the bum should be able to “breathe” and the bottom crotch point should fall comfortably below your body. These jeans are meant to fit relaxed through the rise, meaning the rise is on the longer side, but NOT meant to be brought up as high as it can go on your body. Let the crotch drop a little! It is all part of that “cool” aesthetic we are all going for when we wear a baggy jean.

Getting the fit to be consistent across all sizes was definitely the most challenging part of creating this pattern! Since the primary silhouette feature of this jean is the curvature of the outer side seam, it was difficult to know how big is too big for the larger size range. I can’t test it personally, so I can’t tell you how it feels! Which is why I have my lovely fit model featured above - she helps give me feedback on these types of things.

Since this is a newer type of silhouette on the market (i.e. horseshoe leg shape), she didn’t really have much to compare it to. And honestly, when looking for plus size horseshoe leg shape jeans online to try and get a sense of “how big” they drafted the curve for plus size - I couldn’t find any good reference! I found some good barrel leg references, but there is absolutely a gap in the market for plus size horseshoe leg shape jeans!

THE FABRIC - The Just My Luck Jeans are designed f

THE FABRIC - The Just My Luck Jeans are designed for non-stretch woven denim fabrications, although you can use a variety of bottom weight fabrics! Denim fabric is made using a twill weave which provides strength and flexibility. Due to the structural shape of the horseshoe leg, using a more rigid denim will showcase the architectural curve of the design. If you prefer a more relaxed overall silhouette, choose a denim that has more drape. Midweight to heavyweight denim is most suitable for the Just My Luck Jeans, staying in the 9oz (305gsm) to 13.5oz (458gsm) range. You may also use a stretch denim with a very low amount of elastane, such as 1-2% if you would like that added comfort. Other suggestions for bottom weight fabrics that could work would be corduroy, canvas or twill.

Lightweight woven fabrics are recommended for the pocket lining. Choose a fabric that you like the touch of against your skin! A more tightly woven fabric, like a cotton broadcloth or poplin, is perfect as a pocket lining.

Featured above is their Indigo Hemp Cotton Blend in the 12oz weight. It has a really lovely weight and drape. It somehow is both structured enough and relaxed enough for this horseshoe leg shape! It also is a joy to sew with and has a beautiful, almost slub-like texture. This was the fabric used to film the entire workshop series! It was perfect.

I love the topstitching detail on the darts which really emphasizes them. Topstitching is like “bolding” your seam, just a subtle detail that makes it more obvious.
