Fitted at the bodice, full at the hem, this sweet little collection of fluffy-ruffly goodness is sure to fill those whimsical wardrobe dreams.

Choose from the pocket-loopy-layer dress, the gathered semi-circle panel top, or the itty-bitty frill mini crop top. You can make each your own by selecting your combination of back ties versus invisible zipper and narrow straps versus wide fabric ribbons that tie in a bow. Spinning is highly recommended while wearing the finished gathered garments. May result in feeling loopy.

The Feeling Loopy Dress is best suited for lightweight fabrics, as it requires a lot of fabric to create all those glorious gathers! Choosing a lightweight, woven fabric will yield the best results not only for your comfort, but also for the construction and enjoyment while sewing. Think of breathable cottons, dreamy voiles, airy linens, and lightweight silks. Fabrics with a relaxed drape will create a nice flowing dress. Lightweight cottons with embroidery and eyelets could be beautiful as well! You may wish to combine these types of cottons with a solid cotton for certain parts of the dress, such as the inside layer, bodice lining pieces, and bias binding. Due to the nature of this design, there are lots of pattern pieces – lending itself to color and print combos! This dress can easily be made combining lots of lightweight fabrics to make your own unique masterpiece.

The Feeling Loopy Top and Feeling Loopy Mini Crop Top can be made using lightweight to midweight fabrics, although take caution of going to heavy due to the gathering. You may end up with unwanted bulk in the bodice seam if your fabric is too heavy. It is recommended to stay under 6oz or 200gsm for the best results. The top and crop top can be made in a wide range of materials such as shirting cottons, twill linens, silk taffetas, and light-to-midweight jacquards. Play around with mixing fabrics, colors, and prints with the semi-circle pattern pieces on the side of the top view! Or perhaps you could use a contrast material for the wide strap ties? This pattern is your blank canvas!

The Bodice Fit

The Feeling Loopy Pattern is only fitted at the bodice, for all views. The bodice is drafted with negative ease at the full bust and high bust measurements to give a snug & supportive fit. The negative ease is especially helpful for the back ties closure option, as the bows add additional circumference around the bust. The under bust measurement has a small amount of ease for added comfort. If you plan to wear a bra with your finished garment and you are choosing the invisible zipper closure option, you may wish to size up. This is especially important if you are using a fabric with very little or no give (i.e. natural “stretch” in the fabric).

Choose your size based on your full bust measurement and adjust from there. The bodice is constructed in 3 parts: the front, the back, and the bottom bodice band. The horizontal bodice seam that you see on all views is meant to hit below your apex, but above the point your bust ends. In a bit of that “sweet spot” – cutting your bust shape short to give the ultimate empire waistline. The bottom bodice band is meant to act as the rest of the bust shape, beneath the bottom layer of your garment, giving you extra support and security for lots of easy and comfortable movement. The bottom bodice band is hidden from view in the final garment and only visible from the inside.

If you are between sizes at the bust and using the invisible zipper closure, size up. If you are between sizes at the bust and using the back ties closure, size down.

The Inner Dress Fit

The Feeling Loopy Dress view has an inner layer that is meant to be a relaxed fit around the waist and hips. If you fall across multiple sizes for the waist and hip measurements, it is recommended to grade between sizes only on the #6 Front Inner Layer and #7 Back Inner Layer pattern pieces for a better fit. The rest of the pattern pieces that make up the outer middle layer have plenty of ease, they do not need to be graded between sizes.

Adjusting For Height

The pattern is drafted for a 5’8” (172cm) tall person so you may wish the shorten or lengthen accordingly. The only pattern pieces that have a shorten/lengthen line are #6 Front Inner Layer, #7 Back Inner Layer, #8 Front Outer Middle Layer and #9 Back Outer Middle Layer for the dress view. You may wish to shorten the #8 Front Outer Middle Layer and #9 Back Outer Middle Layer at the shorten/lengthen line to raise the pocket placement which is connected to the #10 Side Outer Middle Layer. The rest of the pattern pieces that may need to be shortened or lengthened can simply be adjusted at the bottom edge because they have a straight hem.

SIZE SELECTION

Find the size that corresponds closest to your personal measurements in the size chart below. Patterns are designed for a 5’8” (172cm) tall person. The following measurements are needed to determine your size:

HIGH BUST | The circumference above your chest, under arms, and below your shoulder blades

FULL BUST | The fullest part of your chest, often times across the apex

UNDER BUST | The circumference directly below your chest, around your rib cage.

WAIST | The smallest part of your torso, directly underneath your rib cage and above your hip bones

LOW HIP | The widest part of your hips, patterns drafted for 8” below the waistline
