7. Damn Good Dress Tutorial – Prepare Your Back Yoke
7A. With right sides together, pin your Back Yoke pieces together along the neckline.
7B. Sew along your back neckline using 1/4” seam allowance.
7C. Flip your pieces right sides out and press your seam to be directly on the edge.
7D. Open your pieces flat with the wrong sides facing up. Pull your seam allowance down towards what will now be your inside Back Yoke. Pin the seam allowance down to your inside Back Yoke along the neckline.
*Alternatively, just press your seam allowance down towards one side if you do not want to pin.
7E. Sew 1/8” away from your previous stitch line. This is called an understitch.
*If you did not pin, stitch with right sides facing up and sew 1/8!( away from your seam line. Make sure to sew on top of your seam allowance.
Understitch - a stitchline close to a seam on the edge of a garment to keep the inside layer of fabric from rolling to the outside.
7F. Turn your Back Yoke right side out and press along your neckline.
7G. Flip your right sides to face each other again.
7H. With right sides together, pin your Back Yoke pieces along the armhole edges.
7I. Sew using 1/2” seam allowance.
7J. Repeat on the other armhole edge of your Back Yoke.
7K. Turn your Back Yoke right side out and press your new seams to be directly on the edge.
